I’ve always found bedrooms to be one of the more interesting spaces to design and decorate, as they truly reflect the tastes and life experiences of the occupants. Whether you prefer layering, simplicity, or everything in between, here are 10 different looks that will inspire your next bedroom makeover.
This tiered bedroom designed by Greg Rapp Design is full of traditional charm, from French-style paisley wallpaper and curtains to a four-poster bed. Larger, upholstered pieces adorn antique tables and artworks, all in pastel tones of light green, gray, gold, green and pink. It’s a beautifully furnished, luxurious space that makes for a long time to come.
Some bedrooms can’t be categorized but still work well. Here, the mural of black and white palm trees might lean towards more tropical colors, but designer Margaux Ceada instead opted for white linen and rich, dark tones of gray, gold and bronze. Soft white curtain panels create a relaxed, relaxed style, and ceiling fixtures add just the right amount of texture and impact.
Designed by Fiore Interiors, this crisp coastal-inspired bedroom blends classic navy, denim and white. The seagrass headboard creates a great backdrop for the bedding, while the framed ocean print adds just the right amount of visual interest to the mix. Adding a rusty ochre tie-dye lumbar pillow is a playful transformation.
When nature is the protagonist through floor-to-ceiling windows, it is best not to try to steal this beauty by over-decorating. Herron Horton Architects chose to accentuate the wooden headboards, walls, and floors with neutral furnishings and understated bedding.
A simple white ruffled bed skirt and many pillows and blankets in different shades of grey add comfort to the room while focusing attention on the greenery outside. This just goes to show that minimalism doesn’t have to mean indifferent or unappealing.
A bedroom designed by Toronto Interior Design for a client in San Francisco. The paintings commissioned on the bed are the driving force of the palette. But instead of choosing a coastal direction, the designer chose to combine global textiles with a variety of patterns such as black, cyan and golden yellow for custom pillows. Grey and charcoal-coloured bedding is complemented by a reclaimed wood headboard and two airflow-inspired bedside tables.
The designers at Gathered have studied the ease of texture and softness. Wicker beds and flower pots contrast with the white bedding and walls. This bohemian space is an excellent example of the correct use of neutral tones: the texture, some pops of pink on the wood, pillows and rugs, and the green earth of potted plants keep the space from being too monolithic.
There’s nothing I like more than a great trough tufted headboard. Designed by Regan Baker Design, this custom bed with built-in bedside tables is a work of art in itself. Choose slate blue textiles with dark indigo cushions to complement the walnut bed frame. The clean lines of abstract patterned wall coverings and black wall-mounted reading lamps take the décor-style bed in a more modern direction.
The design of this transitional room is inspired by the fantastic fish motif wallpaper in mint and coral. By using two single beds instead of one queen, Leah Muller Interiors harnesses the power of repetition to create a design impact: two identical upholstered headboards, white hotel striped bedding and tie-dye throw pillows are a perfect match.
When you have a small bedroom, it’s often difficult to make it function as it should. But the unique interior design and décor manage to make this space both functional and eye-catching. The grey walls set the stage for triangular patterned blankets, abstract art, and graphic perforations of striped shutters. The black shade on the silver lamp adds a touch of shine to the oak and black nightstand that is perfectly tucked into the corners.
This bedroom designed by Lane McNab Interiors evokes classic arts and crafts design themes while still looking 21st century. The room is covered with colorful vintage-style rugs, and the carved wood frames of the four-poster bed, bedside tables, and entryway table shine brightly. Warm white walls keep the space modern and contrast with the wooden furniture. Neutral bedding makes the carpet a highlight.
