Want to change up your bedroom décor this year? I’ve recently visited several wonderful trade shows and discovered design trends in every room in my home, and bedrooms are no exception. Whether you want a complete overhaul or just want a fun new twist, you’ll find new ideas to update your shelter here.
The bedroom was what we had come to expect from calm, tranquil. It’s where our day begins and ends, and if we’re lucky enough to have time to take a nap once in a while, it’s also a way for us to escape our busy schedules.
Adding some curvilinear shapes goes a long way in bringing a warm softness that creates a serene atmosphere. This can be as simple as adding a round or arched headboard, curved side table or bomb cabinet, or round lamp.
Don’t be afraid to mix more straight and rectangular shapes to create subtle formal interactions. It will bring fun to the space without making it seem busy.
And what better way to make a design statement in your bedroom than with the furniture that matters all?
Whether in traditional or modern spaces, classic four-poster beds or canopy beds can be found everywhere these days, along with large upholstered headboards and other large design options, giving the bed itself the focal point.
A sub-trend for feature beds is the troughed tufted headboard, which essentially refers to a padded headboard that is tufted in a vertical or horizontal part (known as a trough) rather than the more typical square or diamond pattern.
The exterior has a sense of traditional richness, but in a simpler, more modern form, making it perfect for traditional, modern, and especially eclectic transitional spaces.
Casual mix-and-match art walls are not a new trend, but a recent development is the shift from foyers and living rooms to the most intimate and personal space: bedrooms.
Display family photos, memorabilia, or some of your favorite art collections to make your bedroom feel more personal and unlike any hotel room. It’s also a great way to fill the space above the headboard to complete the look of your signature bed and give the entire room a focal wall to draw you in.
Note: If placing framed pieces on a wall next to a bed, always make sure they are securely attached – if you live in an earthquake country, consider a different location.
Pastel greens such as sage, mint, and forest are almost neutral and perfect for the bedroom, as they can be paired with other shades or used on their own, giving personality to a space without needing to be eye-catching.
Note: Look for traditional shades with hints of grey that bring a touch of sophistication and traditional style, even if it pairs perfectly with more modern furniture.
In some rooms, you want the lighting to be powerful and both to illuminate the space and to help with the task. In the bedroom, one of the main tasks is to fall asleep, so you can make the light more dim or soft, in addition to the occasional reading light, or at least make sure you have a choice. Including dimmer switches, wall washers, and asymmetrical or cluster lights will ensure that the overall lighting scheme is not overly uniform and bright, creating a more intimate atmosphere that will allow you to sleep peacefully.
Speaking of lighting, while there are countless beautiful table lamps to choose from, we’re seeing more and more designers opting to install chandeliers and wall lamps above bedside tables. This style of lamp is very practical because it frees up space on the bedside table for other items such as electronics or a bottle of water. Even with simple luminaires with geometric shapes such as the classic white globe, it embodies a unique and high-end style statement.
Don’t want to open up the wall to add a hardwiring unit? Plug-in sconces and pendants can create a similar effect, making the casual elegance of draped wire wrapped around a pillar or decorative bracket part of the glamour.
For those who eschew bold colors, a simple black, white, and gray palette can be used to create a gorgeous bedroom.
This timeless combination gives the room a sense of sophistication and sophistication, but it can also be warm and welcoming if you make sure to include plenty of textures and patterns. Use patterned pillows and wallpaper, artwork, textured fabrics, and notes of wood and plants to ensure that the space feels sophisticated and inviting to the touch.
Despite our good intentions, our luminous devices often find their way into the bedroom. But even if your phone is an alarm clock, you don’t have to let a mess of wires and adapters ruin your décor.
Cleverly hiding the charging station in your bedside table will give you a dedicated place to store your devices, so you always know where they are, but you don’t have to see them all the time. Look for furniture with integrated charging racks or cubicles, or use furniture with an open back or center shelf, placed in front of a low socket to prevent clutter.
There are some beautiful things that can be discovered in the digital age, and one of them is the colorful pixelated patterns and prints.
Whether you’re opting for large, vivid pixelated patterns on your wallpaper, or smaller pieces of art, this modern look will bring an interesting twist to your space that can complement more traditional pieces and textures.
